Qualicum Beach Mayor Teunis Westbroek shows B.C.'s Community Services Minister Ida Chong the area to be developed as a walking trail, linking the downtown area to beach access during the Minister's April 13, 2007 visit to the oceanside community.
The Province's LocalMotion program is contributing $31,000 to help Qualicum Beach build a walking trail from the downtown area to the beach access.
The trail will allow users to walk safely without having to use the roadways. It will also complete a trail system that crosses the municipality from Grandon Creek Walking Trail to the Little Qualicum River estuary.
Qualicum Beach is one of 26 communities across British Columbia that are receiving $18.9 million in the first round of the Province's LocalMotion program, to build bicycle paths, trails and walkways, support community playgrounds and improve accessibility for people with disabilities.
