LocalMotion

Since 2007, LocalMotion has funded 122 projects across British Columbia – vital pedestrian and cycling infrastructure projects that promote healthier, greener and more accessible communities, while creating jobs and stimulating the economy. For a complete list of projects, visit the Funded Projects page.

From improving sidewalks and creating bike paths to enhancing greenways and increasing accessibility to public amenities, LocalMotion is helping local governments throughout the province create even better places to live, work and play.

The $40-million LocalMotion program supports projects that promote physical activity, a reduction in car dependency and associated greenhouse gas emissions, as well as increased mobility for seniors and people with disabilities. LocalMotion funds are also available for community playgrounds and children’s parks activities.

LocalMotion provides up to 50 per cent of eligible projects costs, with a maximum contribution of $1 million per year.

As a result of a commitment on the part of all levels of government to accelerate the disbursement of infrastructure funding to stimulate the economy and meet the needs of communities, in March 2009 the federal government announced it was proudly supporting the LocalMotion program.

LocalMotion is part of an overall $14-billion capital infrastructure program supported by the Province that will create up to 88,000 jobs and help build vital public infrastructure in every region of B.C. For more information, visit the Every Job Counts! website.

The application submission period for the 2009 round of funding is now closed. All successful applicants have been notified and funding for this program is fully committed.
